Yellow bells music 🔔🎶 We recorded the bioelectric signals of a yellow bells. Somebody named this flower after a cup, and they did it a very long time ago. The genus is Tecoma, and the word comes down from Nahuatl, the language of the Aztec empire and still spoken by well over a million people in Mexico. Tecomaxochitl. Tecomatl is a drinking vessel, a small bowl or cup, and xochitl is flower. Cup flower. Somebody looked at a flower like this one, saw the shape of something you'd drink out of, and that reading is still sitting inside its botanical name today. It really is a cup, too. What reads as five petals is one petal. They're fused the whole way down into a single unbroken tube, and the five soft points around the rim are the only evidence left that they were ever separate pieces. The flower is one continuous sheet of tissue folded into a vessel, held open at the mouth, narrowing to the one spot worth reaching, which is exactly what a long-tongued bee or a hummingbird needs it to be.
