Tiny mushroom music 🍄🎶 In the forest, we recorded the bioelectric signals of a very small mushroom. The little round ones here aren't babies, exactly. They're already finished. A mushroom doesn't grow the way a plant does. It gets put together underground first, in miniature, with every part it's ever going to have already in place, and then it stops and waits. When enough water finally arrives it doesn't build anything new. It pumps the cells it already has full of water and expands, the way a life raft does. That's the entire event. It's why one can be standing there in the morning that wasn't there at dusk, and it's why something this soft can lift a paving stone on the way up. So the small ones aren't behind. They're the ones that haven't taken their water yet. Everything this one is going to be is already there, at that size, in the moss, waiting on rain. Nothing here is making sound out loud.
