At some point in your life, you have to decide to stop making excuses for why you can’t flip the script. We were dealt a hard deck with his diagnosis, but… A deck has other cards. A harder deck makes you appreciate the good also in it. The harder deck makes you more understanding of others. We don’t know your deck. We don’t know if cards were slipped in there that you didn’t intend to be present. We don’t know if some cards are bent, ripped, or tattered. But just like the UNO deck collecting dust in your closet somewhere, the deck is still usable. It’s still playable. You could still pull it out and enjoy the laughter that comes with it. And honestly that’s a whole lot like life. At some point, you have to decide… Just because they walked away, you won’t. Just because they won’t forgive, you will. Just because your job changed, you won’t give up. Just because the relationship is hard, you won’t stop trying. Just because it didn’t come easily for you, you’ll keep putting in the work. Just because EVERYONE else complains, gripes, and blames, you won’t. Just because others don’t call out the good, you will. Just because you feel alone, you won’t keep the door closed on others. Just because they hurt you, you won’t LIVE IN IT FOREVER. Just because it’s easy to choose yourself, you’ll live life choosing others first. Just because hospital days are hard, you’ll keep being silly with your boy. Life’s too short to live everyday making excuses.
