Nigeria is different when it comes to welcoming Western tourist filming at markets… 🇳🇬📸 I’ve walked through local markets with my camera in countries like Ghana, Côte d’Ivor, Guinea, and every other West African country and sometimes people REALLY don’t appreciate being filmed. At Wuse Market in Abuja, my experience has been almost the complete opposite. People see the camera, smile, wave, come over for a chat and sometimes even ask to be in the video. 😂 I ended up talking to this fruit seller about everything from Nigerian agriculture to the apparent Nigeria vs South Africa “beef.” 😂🇳🇬🇿🇦 A lot of the pineapple and watermelon sold here is grown locally, particularly in northern Nigeria, while some fruits are imported from countries like Egypt and South Africa. The berries caught my attention: 5,000 naira for a pack, roughly US$3. Imported from South Africa and definitely considered a more expensive fruit here. So technically I went to a Nigerian market to taste South African berries. 😂 But what I’ll remember most from Wuse Market is once again the people. After almost three weeks traveling around this country, the friendliness and hospitality continue to be one of my favorite things about Nigeria. ❤️🇳🇬 #nigeria #abuja #westafrica
