Are you being pestered (pesto..ed) with unwanted attention? Wear basil as a natural perfume by rubbing the leaves all over your body, and the pestering will stop. Crushing the leaves releases their aromatic oils that deters mosquitoes. Basil has a pungent aroma. Avoid doing this if you’re prone to skin allergies or have sensitive skin. And obviously, don’t rub it too close to your eyes. Mosquitoes and other biting insects dislike the smell of basil. Other plants worth trying include most citrus and lemongrass.
