For her role as Trinity in The Matrix (1999), Carrie-Anne Moss performed most of her own stunts, even though she had a fear of both heights and riding motorcycles. Throughout production, she and Keanu Reeves spent extensive time working with the stunt team, building the trust needed to tackle the film’s most physically demanding action scenes. Moss once explained that, as a mother of three, she understood the risks but still felt determined to push herself. She wanted complete confidence in the people around her because she knew she’d regret turning down the challenge later in life. As she put it, she wanted to be able to look back when she was older and know that she had done it. Her commitment came at a cost. During training, she fractured her ankle while practicing Trinity’s signature “scorpion” kick, and while filming The Matrix Reloaded, she suffered a broken leg. Despite both injuries, Moss chose to continue working, determined to finish the role rather than step away from production.
