Compatability is incredibly important with dogs and humans. It's common that people make emotional decisions when selecting the dog they are going to bring into their home and likely have a 10+ year relationship with. The amount of times I've worked with clients that are incompatible with their dog over 15+ is... a lot. Compatability is a few different things though: 1. Your energy. What is the default state you live in? Excited? Calm? Anxious? Passive? Frustrated? Confident? 2. Your lifestyle. Are you home a lot, hardly ever home, or in between? 3. Your activity level. Would you consider yourself high/medium/low activity level? 4. The environment. Is it a city, suburbs or farm? Who lives in the home, what is their energy? 5. Ability to fulfill instincts. You get a terrier, what is your plan for fulfilling prey drive? 6. Your knowledge. Do you understand dog psychology? Do you know what it takes to earn the position of a leader/parent-figure with a dog? 7. Your actions. Do you do actions that make sense for a dog to follow and listen to direction? Or do you act like a follower and still wonder why your dog doesn't follow? The more knowledge you have about dog psychology, practice calm confidence and put it all into action... the more compatible you become with more dogs! *𝘛𝘩𝘪𝘴 𝘷𝘪𝘥𝘦𝘰 𝘪𝘴 𝘱𝘳𝘰𝘵𝘦𝘤𝘵𝘦𝘥 𝘶𝘯𝘥𝘦𝘳 𝘜.𝘚.
