This crime is absolutely disgraceful. The victim was sitting in traffic when thieves smashed her vehicle window and grabbed her phone. But the theft reportedly didn’t stop with the device. Within minutes, they also (allegedly) gained access to her financial information. A few ways to reduce your risk while driving: • Keep your doors locked and windows closed, especially in slow or congested traffic. • Position your phone out of sight. • Stay alert to people moving between stopped vehicles. • Leave enough space behind the vehicle ahead to move away if it’s safe. • If someone smashes your window, don’t fight over the phone. Sound your horn, attract attention and prioritize your life. Protect what’s inside your phone before it’s stolen: • Turn on Stolen Device Protection and consider setting it to Always. • Require Face ID for banking, email, password-manager and other sensitive apps. • Use a strong passcode,and shield it when entering it in public. • Enable Find My iPhone. • Hide notification previews and limit access to Control Centre while the phone is locked. If your phone is stolen: 1. Use another device to mark it as lost immediately. 2. Contact your bank and cellular provider. 3. Change critical passwords and review your accounts. 4. Report the theft to police. 5. Don’t remove the phone from Find My, as that removes Activation Lock. And please, never chase or confront a thief over a phone. A device can be replaced.
