One of the most powerful safety messages we can give a child is: “You can tell me anything. You will not be in trouble for telling me the truth.” Help your child recognize the difference: A surprise is temporary and will eventually be revealed - like a birthday gift. An unsafe secret is something they’re told never to share, particularly when it involves: • Touching or their private areas • Photos or videos • Gifts, favours or special treatment • Threats or intimidation • Private online conversations • Anything that makes them feel frightened, confused or uncomfortable Avoid promising that you won’t be upset. Instead, promise that you will listen, believe them, help them and remind them that coming to you was the right decision. Children are more likely to speak when they know they won’t be blamed for what has already happened. Please share this message with another parent. ❤️ #ChildSafety #BackToSchoolSafety #ParentingTips
