Another Toronto Police officer has been shot. I’m angry and frustrated. And I know I’m not the only one asking “How did we get here?” Toronto Police say officers were responding to an alleged e-bike robbery when a suspect fled. During the arrest, police allege the suspect produced a firearm and shot an officer in the leg. Thankfully, the officer is expected to survive. The accused is now facing 14 charges, including attempted murder. But this is the part that should concern every single one of us: He is also charged with two counts of failing to comply with a release order and possessing a firearm contrary to a prohibition order. A release order. A firearms prohibition. Yet he was (allegedly) out there with a gun. Yes these are allegations (need to put that in there 🙄) but we are still allowed to ask serious questions about a system designed to protect the public. Our police officers go to work every day knowing they may have to put themselves between danger and the rest of us. They can make the arrests. They can seize illegal guns. They can put their lives on the line. But they cannot fix the justice system themselves. Two months after Toronto Police Constable Marc Pinizzotto was killed in the line of duty, another Toronto officer has been shot. Enough is Enough!! Our officers deserve better. Victims deserve better. And Canadians deserve to feel safe in their communities. Wishing this officer a full and speedy recovery. 💙🇨🇦 #TorontoPolice #Toronto #PublicSafety
