During the Japanese promotional tour for The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers in January 2003, actors Viggo Mortensen and Karl Urban used their free time to explore Tokyo’s hobby and toy districts, drawing particular attention for their extended visit to the Gundam section. The two reportedly spent nearly 20 minutes carefully examining model kits and figures, both leaving with multiple Gundam purchases. Mortensen, known for his interest in Japanese pop culture, also explored the Ultraman section and picked up additional merchandise, including a Baltan Alien figure intended for Urban’s young son after confirming the character was a villain. Despite already carrying a growing collection of items, Mortensen continued browsing and later added a Masked Rider Ryuki figure to his haul before eventually rejoining the rest of the promotional team at the Oriental Bazaar souvenir shop.
