I’m not supposed to tell you this… but every NBA player has a couple of tricks nobody really talks about, little things they get away with in games because the referee just isn’t looking there in that exact split second. On defense, it’s a hand-check that stays low and below the hip, right where the ref’s sightline is already on the ball instead of on you. None of it is some big conspiracy, it’s just timing and understanding where eyes are and aren’t looking in that split second, and that’s the same basketball IQ we drill into every player who comes through here: read the angles, read the game, don’t just react to it.
