Speaking of mysterious and magical sources of power, it was my wife Melanie’s birthday yesterday!! She doesn’t have TikTok so me saying it on here to you won’t ever get back to her! But don’t worry, I did celebrate her, and most importantly, I didn’t mess it up!! I am very good at gift giving for no reason, (if I see something I know someone will like, I will try to get it and give it!) but I am very bad at gift giving when it comes to birthdays and holidays. And only when it comes to adults! I can kid shop like a pro. But shopping for adults??? Specifically the people in this life I care most about???? I freeze. I walk around a mall or someplace where there are things for sale, because something about a birthday or holiday apparently makes me completely regress to a time before online shopping, and by the time I leave I have purchased exactly one or two small things for me and nothing for anybody else. But while at the shopping space, I seem to have also acquired a rising anxiety and a dreadful sense that time is running out. But not this time!!! I focused, I got her some things, I put some decorations around, our daughter and I wrote cards, I did it! I don’t know why I’m like this, I’m so worried it won’t be the right gift? My love for the person will not translate through the gift for them?? I get so worried for some reason. I don’t want to blame it on the kid in my preschool who opened my present (The Snugglebumms board game!! One of my favorites!! I picked it out especially!!) and her face dropped into pure disappointment and she looked right at me and said “I already have this.” That sent me to straight to the swingset to dangle stomach on seat, knuckles and sneakers trailing in the dirt until the party was over. But that was 40+ years ago! Surely that’s not it! Or is it? Did it even happen?? DO THE SNUGGLEBUMMS EVEN EXIST?????? Life is so weird and filled with mystery but at least you can figure some stuff out sometimes
