How thick is too thick? (for pullup bars) Common grips on exercise equipment are about 1" to 1.5" in the US (2.5 cm to 3.8 cm), with in between diameters pretty common. Usually these thinner ones are easier to hold, and you'll be able to grip more securely and get stronger faster. Don't worry about training the "easy way" here - you can always do grip training on thicker holds after your regular workouts. Obviously, if you get below a certain thickness, it starts more uncomfortable (imagine gripping rebar, for example), but this is rarely an issue. Just wanted to test this and I used PVC to try different grip widths. It gets harder quite quickly! Have a wonderful day. #hybridcalisthenics
