In the late 1980s, Tombow created Irojiten around a simple idea: colored pencils did not have to be just for kids. Instead of basic colors, its 90 pencils explore subtle tones and unusual shades, each individually named and organized into book-like volumes like a color dictionary. Nearly 40 years later, Irojiten is still going, with Tombow even expanding the idea into watercolor pencils.
