Replying to @razondalee Americans have wildly different regional accents, and most of us don’t realize it until it causes a mix-up. Case in point: “women,” plural. I’m from New York, so we don’t say WIH-min, we say WUH-men, it’s about context, not incorrect grammar. Same reason pen/pin sound identical in the South, cot/caught merge out West, and aunt becomes “ahnt” in New England. Regional accents aren’t mistakes, they’re history. There’s also a real, separate trend where Gen Z is pronouncing “women” and “woman” the same way on purpose. Two different phenomena colliding on one word. #linguistics #accent #women #nyc #northeast
