Every parent can relate to this: family vacations are amazing, but they’re rarely a vacation for the parents. In fact, during most trips, my activity level is much higher than it is at home. Long days, sightseeing, keeping up with the kids, flights, packing, unpacking, planning the next day... and somewhere along the way, I always make the same mistake. I stop prioritizing sleep. By the end of the trip, the accumulated sleep deprivation leaves me completely exhausted. And when your energy levels are that low, it’s much harder to make good food choices. You start craving quick energy. You snack more. Portions get bigger. You tell yourself, «Just this once,» because you’re simply trying to keep going. Looking back, I think it was a combination of sleep deprivation, water retention from travel and flights, and a change in my normal routine. For years, we’ve been choosing hotels without breakfast because intermittent fasting works really well for me. But this time, we had incredible hotel breakfasts, and honestly, we enjoyed every minute of them as a family. The problem wasn’t the breakfasts themselves, but the fact that I didn’t adjust the rest of my day accordingly. Instead of balancing things out, I ended up eating 3 large meals a day — something I’m not used to at all. Lesson learned (again): sleep like it’s your job!!! Because sometimes it’s not the workouts, the calories, or even the food itself that makes the biggest difference. It’s recovery. And if you’re currently looking at the scale after a trip and feeling frustrated, don’t worry. In the next video, I’ll show you exactly how I lost those extra 3 kg in just 1 week. It wasn’t easy, but it was absolutely possible. #fitmom #healthylifestyle #diet #sleep #recovery
