It’s your responsibility as a parent to nourish your child. And some of y’all feed your kids like you hate them 😅 We’re setting kids up to have a poor relationship with food AND chronic health issues by constantly feeding them foods loaded with sugar, artificial dyes, and ultraprocessed ingredients simply because they’re convenient. Here’s a tip from a mom who prioritizes nourishing her child with whole foods: If you don’t show it to them or feed it to them, they don’t know it exists. That doesn’t mean my child has never had a gluten free, sugar free cookie or that every single thing he eats is perfect. But 98% of the time, we eat whole foods because that’s what I want his “normal” to be. And I think we’ve taken this whole “don’t demonize food” conversation way too far. Your young child doesn’t inherently understand what it means to “demonize” a food. You are teaching them how to think about food. There doesn’t need to be shame attached to saying, “We don’t eat that because it doesn’t help our bodies grow strong and healthy.” Teaching your child that foods affect their body differently isn’t creating food shame. You can teach them to make nourishing choices without making them feel guilty when they eat something different. Those two things can exist at the same time.
