While giving remarks in Michigan, Vice President JD Vance responded to comments about his wife from Democratic Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed. “Whatever you want to talk about, Abdul, keep my wife’s name the hell out of your mouth because she’s way out of your league,” Vance said. It was Vance’s harshest and most direct attack yet on El-Sayed, who is Muslim, and who has previously brought up Second Lady Usha Vance, who is Hindu and the daughter of immigrants from India, in comments about the vice-president. Earlier this month, Vance criticized El-Sayed’s previous comments that efforts to ban Shariah law stemmed from white supremacy. Vance said he would love to go back in time to tell his grandfather, who he called Papaw. “That’s not my Papaw’s Democratic Party, my friends,” he said. El-Sayed then responded on X: “So do we think JD is taking Usha with him back in time to meet Papaw, or no…” 📷: Jeff Kowalsky/Reuters
