John Kavanagh The Gravediggers in Dublin is perhaps the most classic Irish Pub in the world. Since 1833, for the last eight generations, the Kavanagh family has been serving cold pints of Guinness to their patrons. Many say this is the place to get the best pint of Guinness in Dublin, and that’s saying something. The pub is called The Gravediggers because they share a wall with the Glasnevin cemetery, where more than 1.5 million Dubliners lay to rest. Back in the day, the older generations of Kavanaghs would sell their beer to the Gravediggers through the boundary fence. These days, Ciaran Kavanagh, along with his wife, his sister and other family, are all keeping the family tradition alive and well. Their addition: a menu of tapas inspired by Irish food. Now, customers can visit The Gravediggers not just for a pint of Guinness, but for traditional coddle, beef stew, crispy mac and cheese, and a variety of other fare.
