Ethical? Skimpossible.
From bush thongs, to plastic advent calendars, to nipple bras - SKIMS has used online outrage as a marketing strategy to build a billion dollar empire. But let’s not get distracted: SKIMS has been publicly outed for garment worker exploitation (their garment makers in Myanmar were forced to work overtime without pay in 2022), greenwashing (SKIMS packaging stated ‘I am not plastic’, when it was, in fact… made of plastic), and using the planet as a punchline.
SKIMS has also decided that 2025 is a perfect time to open a new store in the UAE, a state that continues to fund genocide in western Sudan through its support of the Rapid Support Forces.
And just last week, SKIMS announced that its petrochemical-fuelled shapewear will sit only a few kilometres from the world’s highest concentration of child amputees in occupied Palestine. Sources
