Big Fashion: Exposed
On my first morning in Accra, I joined 182 community members and volunteers at one of @No More Fast Fashion weekly beach clean-ups. It’s grueling but rewarding work, and there’s a genuine sense of camaraderie. Once removed from the beach, the waste is loaded onto a truck from the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) and hauled to a sanctioned dumpsite about 50km from the coast. In parallel, The Or Foundation is working closely with the AMA to capture waste before it reaches the beach, while also piloting new materials, products, and systems. I’ll be sharing more about this in upcoming videos. The community could easily clean up to 100 tonnes of waste per week, but to do so, they need a new truck — one that costs at least $250,000. It’s not cheap, but it’s something our biggest polluters can definitely afford. In addition to the truck, we need all fashion brands to share their annual production numbers and sign the #SpeakVolumes campaign. 📣 TAKE ACTION
