The thing that stops most people from executing isn't doing the work. It's the panic that sets in long before the work actually starts. I straight up don’t allow myself to get overwhelmed. Most people treat overwhelm like a weight they have to carry. Something strong people push through and weak people cave under. When you look at it that way, you stay stuck. Overwhelm isn't a weight, it's a mechanical error. What's actually happening is your brain speeding up to track every task, every open loop, every thing that could go wrong, all at the same time. It can't hold all of it. So it panics. That panic FEELS like the problem, but it's just a sign that you're trying to carry more than any human can carry at once. Once you see it that way, you stop trying to be tough. You just fix the error. I use a dotted line to keep myself from getting overwhelmed. Write down everything you think you have to do. All of it. Get it out of your head and onto the page. Rank the list. Most important at the top, least at the bottom. Now draw a dotted line across it. Three or four items above the line. Everything else below. Above the line is what you do. Below the line is closed. Not now, not today, not taking up space in your head. You will get to it after the top of the list is done, and not one second before. Doing less isn't quitting. It's the only reasonable option. Nobody has infinitely strong shoulders.
