Five Peak District villages so pretty they feel like film sets 🤎 but let's be honest, there are so many more! The Peak District gets talked about for its hikes, but the villages tucked between them are half the reason to go. Here are six of the loveliest, and the stories behind them: 🍮 Bakewell - Technically a market town, but I'm not leaving it out. The Bakewell pudding was reportedly a mistake, made when a cook at the White Horse Inn (now the Rutland Arms) spread the egg and almond mixture over the jam instead of stirring it into the pastry. 💜 Castleton - The only place in the world where Blue John is found, a banded purple and yellow fluorite mined in the hills above the village. 🌉 Milldale - A tiny hamlet at the top of Dovedale, home to a packhorse bridge so narrow that Izaak Walton complained in The Compleat Angler that "a mouse can hardly go over it". 🐑 Ashford in the Water - Come for the medieval Sheepwash Bridge, named after the little walled pen beside it where ewes were once pushed into the Wye to clean their fleeces before shearing. 👞 Great Longstone - Sitting under Longstone Edge with a long main street of 18th century cottages and a medieval cross on the green.
