I picked up TWO successful middle schoolers today. And neither one of them brought home an A. ❤️ Both had science tests today. My 6th grader, Aaryn, got an 89. My 8th grader got a 70. And when they got in the car, I celebrated BOTH of them. Because one of my children excels academically. Learning comes naturally to her. She can sit in a classroom, absorb the information, study it, and perform well on a test. The other has a more of a difficulty when it comes to learning in large groups. So sometimes sitting in a classroom with 25–30 other children, being taught the same information, at the same speed, in the same way, and then being expected to prove he understands it on the same test… is HARD. That 70 might have required more effort from him than someone else’s 90. And I refuse to raise children who believe their worth can be calculated by a number at the top of a piece of paper. Neither cheated. Neither gave up. Both studied. Both tried. Both behaved well. Both showed up. Both have great attendance. Both are respectful. Both are athletes who understand sportsmanship. Both walked out of school today knowing their mama was proud of them. THAT matters to me. #different #equality #learning #school
