Here’s what it does: It requires every adult user to give up their privacy just to get online, orders Meta to get better at surveilling you and linking your accounts together, allows Meta to harvest even MORE sensitive data on all users, rolls back decades of privacy protections, and Meta has waived the right to argue any of it is unconstitutional. Not a single aspect of the settlement challenges Meta’s core business model: harvesting and monetizing user data. I can’t explain what a dark moment this is for anyone who cares about privacy, free expression, and a less profit driven tech landscape.
