This young grey seal, of only 8 months, was badly injured after becoming entangled in a net. 😢 Grey seals are incredibly curious, which sadly means they often become victims of discarded litter. Poor Karamatta was one of them. His name means "entangled" in Japanese. The net around his neck had cut so deeply into his skin that it couldn't be removed safely on site, so Karamatta was brought to our seal hospital. Fortunately, we were able to free him from the net and assess the extent of his injuries. Seals grow but a net around their neck doesn't. It gradually cuts deeper and deeper into the skin, causing severe injuries. Without help, Karamatta would most likely not have survived. 🥺 Karamatta is now receiving the care he needs to recover.
