Well, this was crazy. When your dog rips the zoomies through your entire house after something exciting happens, the goal should not be to match their chaos. The goal should be to teach them how to come back down. Remember, your dog is going from level 10 amped up. They are not going to hit level 0 in two seconds just because you said “calm down.” It takes time. We want to bring them from a 10, to a 6, to a 3, and then eventually to calm. During the zoomies, your energy matters too. If you start yelling, chasing, laughing, panicking, or getting chaotic yourself, you are usually just adding fuel to the fire. Stay calm, guide them, slow the room down, and understand that this is a process. We are not looking for instant perfect. We are teaching the dog how to regulate after excitement.
