I used to think #phenomenology was simply a research method, something I had to understand well enough to finish my thesis and graduate. But somewhere along the way, it became more than that. Semakin aku dive into pemikiran Alfred Schütz, semakin aku sadar bahwa fenomenologi bukan cuma tentang bagaimana seseorang mengalami dunia, melainkan bagaimana kita memberi makna pada orang-orang yang ada di dalamnya. Konsep #tipifikasi was one of the ideas that really stayed with me. Schütz says that we don't really know people in their entirety. We understand them through the "types" we create from our experiences with them. Teman. Anak. Pasangan. Mahasiswa. Perempuan yang kelihatan kuat. Seseorang yang terlihat tahu apa yang dia mau. We take pieces of someone, put them together, and somehow feel like we know the whole person. Padahal, we never really do. Ada begitu banyak bagian dari seseorang yang tidak pernah kita lihat. Hal-hal yang tidak mereka ceritakan. Alasan di balik keputusan mereka. Ketakutan yang mereka simpan. Bahkan versi diri mereka yang hanya muncul ketika tidak ada siapa-siapa yang melihat. And while I was studying #identitynegotiation in my #thesis, I realized I was also learning something about my own identity hehe.. Mungkin itu sih kenapa tesis ini akhirnya terasa seperti character & brain development (for me).😋 I didn't just use phenomenology to complete a thesis. I genuinely dove into it and somewhere along the way, it changed the way I see people. It taught me that "being known is not the same as being fully understood".🤫 So if you think you know me, maybe you do. But perhaps you only know the version of me that our experiences have allowed you to see. And that's okay. Because I am not a single story, a single identity, or a single "type" that can be completely understood from the outside. #meisyasallwa
