Douc langurs faces look remarkably human-like, with gentle eyes and a peaceful expression that has earned them the “zen monkey” nickname. Douc langurs are highly social animals. They live in groups and communicate through a variety of calls, gestures, and body movements. They spend most of their lives high in the forest canopy, rarely descending to the ground. Their survival is shaped by an intimate knowledge of their environment, an ability to remember seasonal patterns of leaves, and the strength of their social bonds within the group.
