"For the sake of who I am to become, I will sacrifice who I am now." — attributed to Miyamoto Musashi, the greatest swordsman who ever lived Read it again, slower. Because most people get this quote wrong. They think the sacrifice is the grind. The 5am alarms, the missed parties, the discipline. That's the surface. The real sacrifice is heavier than that. It's the identity. To become the next version of you, you have to give up the current one. The one you spent years building. The one that got you everything you have right now. The one your friends recognize, your family expects, and your comfort depends on. That version of you worked. And it has to go anyway. This is why most men stay stuck. Not because they can't handle the work. Because they can't handle the funeral. They want the results of the man they could become while keeping the identity of the man they are. And life doesn't offer that deal. Every level of your life was built by a version of you, and every version has an expiry date. The man who got you here is not the man who gets you there. Honor him. Thank him. And let him go. The strongest men I know have buried multiple versions of themselves. The party guy. The people pleaser. The one who played small so nobody felt uncomfortable. Each one had to die for the next one to be born. And understand what the sacrifice actually looks like in practice. It's not a feeling. It's that from today, you stop making decisions the way the current version makes them. You think, decide, and act at the level of the man you're becoming. Before the results exist. Before it feels natural. When a choice is in front of you, you don't ask "what would I do?" You ask "what would HE do?" And then you do that. That's the sacrifice: his standards, starting now, paid for with your old ones. So the question was never "what are you willing to do?" The question is: who are you willing to stop being? Your identity is creating the life you're living. 🖤 Which version of you is due for a funeral? Be honest. 👇 #identity #selfmastery #miyamotomusashi #discipline #becoming
