I had to share these from Kayla, one of Kenny’s followers, because it brought me so much joy, especially as a teacher myself! She wrote: This year, my students watched an episode of Steve Hartman’s On the Road every day as a way to learn about kindness. When Kenny’s episode came on, my students were immediately drawn to him and wanted to learn more. We spent time watching his videos on social media and he made a huge impact on the kids. As the year went on, the kids started saying, “Be like Kenny.” He essentially became the unofficial grandpa of our class. When he passed, the students were so sad, but they were comforted to know his foundation would continue to support other veterans. This coming year, Kenny’s legacy of kindness will play a major role in our classroom. I have decided to feature him on the cover of the students’ kindness journals. These journals will be used daily to reflect on the episodes of On the Road and track our own acts of kindness. Update: I just had to share this with you as incorporating Kenny’s kindness into my class this year keeps growing. 😁 I have decided to add “Kenny of the Week” in my classroom. The award will be given weekly, starting with me awarding it to a student, but after that, the previous recipient will award it to another student or staff member at our school. The recipient will get their picture taken with this “Kenny of the Week” sign, as well as a certificate to take home. I have even shared this with a few other teacher friends that plan to do the same in their classrooms. I am happy to share with anyone interested, so if you know anyone that would want it please let me know. Thank you again for sharing his story, heart, and contagious smile with the world. 😊💙🇺🇸❤️
