First, I should note that Ehrman does not make the claim about socialism being the descendent of Jesus, but I think it’s a reasonable claim. Second, both Ehrman and myself are focusing on ideologies rooted in the ‘west’ (Europe & North America), collectivism certainly existed in native communities across the world, and in other areas as well. I’m not trying to claim that I have universal knowledge of human history, rather I’m speaking to a specific part of it that I’m familiar with. I could have been more clear in the video, my apologies for that.
