Dogs claiming a human from another dog is one of the most common causes of dog fights. You can see in this video the vmbrown and white dog getting affection from the guy and as the black dog comes over, the brown and white dog snaps at the other dog which triggers the fight. The guy handled breaking up the fight in a great way. Didn't yell or panic. Took action, stayed silent, followed through and broke it up. We obviously dont have context beyond what we see here so we dont know whose dog is whose and what the relationships are. The takeaway would be to be conscious of other dogs when giving a dog affection. If you notice the dog you are petting getting tense, giving direct eye contact, ears forward, etc. make sure you stop petting and send the dog back to calmness. If you notice another dog moving in as you give affection to a dog, tell that other dog to stop and give distance. Best to avoid conflict because of affection.
