I hope you start playing push hands. You stand across from a partner and try to move each other off balance. That’s it. But that simple game teaches you one of the deepest concepts in every martial art on earth: leverage. - You learn to stop fighting force head-on. Instead you take your partner’s force and redirect it around your structure, and you use your own skeleton to move them off balance. Bone against bone, not muscle against muscle. It’s called skeletal leverage, and it really helped the idea of leverage click for me in jiu-jitsu. It’s changed how I grapple and even sharpened my wrestling. - Try a modified version too. Let the front leg pivot, and the goal is to move your partner’s back leg. You can work the upper body, get your under hooks, and now you can go for the legs as well. There are a lot of ways to play and modify this game for your goals! - The best part is how gentle it is. I play it with my mom, she’s 67, and she’s picking up real martial concepts without ever training a day in her life. - Grab a partner and try it.
