Health officials in Chicago have confirmed the city’s first human cases of West Nile Virus, as well as the city’s first death of the year from the illness. According to the Chicago Department of Public Health, two cases were reported in recent days in the city, with one of the patients dying as a result of the illness. "2026 has seen the rainiest summer in Chicago in years, giving mosquitoes ample opportunities to breed," said CDPH Commissioner Garth Walker, MD, MPH.
