A 15-year-old boy died after falling approximately 100 feet from an abandoned rock quarry structure in a southwest Chicago suburb Sunday. About 12:58 a.m., officers with the Joliet Police Department were called to Louise Ray Parkway near Collins Street after receiving a report that someone had fallen from a nearby rock quarry building. The abandoned industrial site is located near the Old Joliet Prison. Officers arrived at the scene, located the teenage boy and began providing medical aid until Joliet Fire Department crews arrived. He was pronoucned dead. Four other juvenile boys were with the teen at the time of the incident, police said. As an NBC Chicago crew walked the site, they found no fencing or no signs regarding trespassing at ground level. A climber who didn't want to go on camera said the top of the building is in disrepair and incredibly dangerous. Authorities determined the juveniles entered the property to explore the structure and went to an upper portion of the building, where the teen fell approximately 100 feet. Full story at link in bio.
