Behind the keyboard once again we have people having an absolute meltdown over how to define a woman, and the noise is getting embarrassing. 🙈 If it isn’t an anonymous keyboard warrior trying to tell you what your chromosomes mean, it’s a troll trying to audit your weight, your age, your marital status, or your reproductive choices. Society loves to preach about women’s empowerment until a woman actually shows up and completely blows up their rigid little checkboxes. Standing at the Mrs. America anniversary events this week, the pattern became so clear to me. Look at the women here. My friend Mekayla Eppers was viciously torn apart by the media and tabloids for her body size during Miss USA when she was completely healthy. Natalie Luttmer has navigated the deep physical reality of carrying five C-sections and defending her path to motherhood. Then you look at the atrocious comments surrounding my friend Justus Kelley making history as the first married mom to ever win Miss USA at 31. People are genuinely furious because she doesn’t fit the traditional “rules” of what a “Miss” is allowed to be. In my own notifications? Self-proclaimed internet scientists scream that because I have CAIS and an XY chromosomes, I don’t fit the “definition” of female, trying to use a hidden lab report to erase my entire lifetime of being a woman, a wife, and a mom. If you are a woman in the spotlight, people think it gives them the right to dictate exactly how you are allowed to live and exist. But life doesn’t care about internet checkboxes or outdated expectations. We are out here running marathons, raising families, shattering barriers, and owning our spaces. 💛💜 #womanhood #missusa #mrsamerica #intersex #cais
