I've been taking bike infrastructure design directly to public audiences. Here's what resonates: bike lanes are nerve-wracking for most people to ride in. Only the fast and risk takers on e-bikes prefer them. Most people prefer protected bike lanes. When you explain this to everyday people, they understand immediately why it matters: not everyone is a fearless cyclist. Infrastructure should work for everyone.
