Living with Functional Neurological Disorder (FND) has taught me that not every disability is visible. FND is a real neurological condition where the brain has difficulty sending and receiving signals correctly, causing very real symptoms like weakness, tremors, paralysis, seizures, speech difficulties, chronic pain, balance problems, and more. These symptoms are not imagined, exaggerated, or “all in your head.” One of the biggest misconceptions is that FND is a mental disorder. It is not. While stress can sometimes trigger or worsen symptoms for some people, FND is classified as a neurological disorder, not a psychiatric illness. Many people with FND have no psychological trigger at all. Healing isn’t linear. Recovery can take months or years, and everyone’s journey looks different. Some people improve significantly, while others continue living with chronic symptoms. Every step forward matters. The stigma surrounding FND is often just as difficult as the condition itself. Being believed shouldn’t be another battle we have to fight. Please choose compassion over judgment. Listen before assuming. Believe people when they tell you what they’re experiencing. The more we talk about FND, the more we replace misunderstanding with awareness and hope. 💚 #FunctionalNeurologicalDisorder #FND #NeurologicalDisorder #InvisibleIllness #DisabilityAwareness
