Fourth of July used to mean one thing: blow shit up, light off fireworks, get f*cked up with my friends. That was the whole plan. Then in 2017, everything changed. Terminal diagnosis, six months to live. Five months later I lost the ability to move, then slipped into a coma — except I was awake the whole time. Locked in. Ten months trapped inside my own body. That Fourth of July, lying in a bed at MGH, I heard the fireworks going off over the Esplanade. Couldn’t move. Couldn’t speak. But I made myself a promise: I’m going to see those fireworks again one day. I didn’t just see them again. Independence Day has a whole new meaning for me now — I’m not just watching fireworks, I’m celebrating my independence. And that’s something every single one of us wants: to be independent and live life to the fullest. So do it. Be grateful. Live it up. Happy Fourth. 🇺🇸 #BLINK #LockedInSyndrome #Independence #Manifestation #Recovery
