This for the OG NBA fans. Someone recently asked me which, out of my dozen NBA seasons, was my favorite. Most of you are probably thinking 2003-2008, when I became the No. 1 option for Milwaukee, made an All-Star game, won a Gold medal. That's not it, though. My favorite season, the one I think back to the most, is my rookie season. Yeah, I barely played. The only treatment I needed was for bench splinters. So why? I valued not playing. I valued learning from proven pros like Ray Allen, Glenn Robinson, Sam Cassell, Lindsey Hunter, Tim Thomas and Coach Karl. Getting to practice with them, getting a courtside seat to watch them work, made me a better player. I wanted to play. But I was a second round pick on a stacked roster. I took all I could out of that season. Fast forward three, four years. Now I'm playing. I'm scoring. I'm leading. I was able to appreciate that even more because I remembered not doing any of that. I remembered being inactive, at worst, and a DNP at best. Also, we won. A lot. 52-30. Eastern Conference Finals. Almost made it to the NBA Finals. I got to see, in my first go-round, what it feels like to win in the NBA. How lucky was I, as I later learned through futility, to experience a run like that?
