Humanity could be heading for the stars… but it’s not gonna be anytime soon. The Fermi Explorer Mission has a team of deep-tech engineers and scientists behind it who want to be the first to send a spacecraft towards Alpha Centauri, our nearest neighbouring star system. But at current spacecraft speeds, the journey would take around 80,000 YEARS 😭 The team hopes to launch as early as 2029, with the mission designed to be an ultra-low-cost first step towards interstellar travel. And while 80,000 years sounds completely ridiculous, the team says simply reaching another star system would be a huge milestone for humanity. 📷 Credit: Getty/Fermi Explorer #Space #Astronomy #AlphaCentauri #NASA #ScienceNews
