All aboard! Today’s destination: Harry’s wish ✨️ Harry was just three years old when he was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukaemia. Trains were already a firm favourite of his, but they took on a whole new meaning after cancer. During Harry's time in hospital, the family built train tracks all around his bed to distract him from his treatment. Fast forward to choosing his wish and it was easy: a trip aboard the Flying Scotsman was everything Harry had ever dreamed of. From being able to ride the train to meeting the crew, it was such a special day. His mum, Vicky, told us: “Harry was in his element! After the train ride, the crew were waiting for Harry in the cab with his favourite snacks (apple juice and Jammie Dodgers) and they showed Harry around the cab, even letting him walk through the tender corridor which was such a treat. Harry learnt lots of new facts about the Flying Scotsman and even got to choose a piece of coal to keep! The day kept getting better and the crew asked if Harry would like to have another ride on the train. We had our own private trip and it was such a special moment for Harry. This time he rode with the guard who explained his role and even let Harry wave the flag to let the driver know when it was safe to leave the station. We’re so grateful to everyone for making it happen. Everyone went above and beyond to make sure we had the best time. It was an experience Harry will never forget.” After 25 months of treatment, Harry’s wish represented a new start for him and his family. Thank you to everyone who helped to make his dream come true.
