Today we're thinking of Syrian activist Mazen Al-Hamada, who's been imprisoned since 2020, and hoping to hear good news about his freedom and hundreds of others. • "I will not rest until I take them to court. Even if it costs me my life." Mazen was detained and brutally tortured and raped for nearly two years for smuggling baby formula to a town besieged by the Assad regime and for participating in protests. After his release in 2014, Mazen fled Syria and continued speaking out against the regime while struggling to overcome the horrors he had experienced while imprisoned. Frustrated with the international community's apathy, Mazen returned to Damascus to find ways of bringing an end to the horrors of Assad's regime. Upon returning to Syria on February 23, 2020, Mazen was arrested at Damascus International Airport and has been forcefully disappeared ever since. Repost from @Middle East Matters
