I truly believe—actually, I know—that our loved ones can stay close for a time after they die. I think they’re there for their own funeral if they want to be, and if you’re open to it, they’ll often let you know they’re around. There have been nights after embalming all day when I’m completely exhausted, and I’ll literally say out loud, “Guys… not tonight, okay? Please don’t follow me home. Let’s save that for another day.
