One of the hardest parts of raising a child with autism is how quickly things can change. My 7 yr old has always loved haircuts… the buzzers, the blow dryer, even the scissors. Today started sweet, with him asking his little sister to hold his hand. Then suddenly everything shifted. He became overwhelmed and went into full meltdown mid cut… started scratching me until I was bleeding and also scratched the hairstylist 💔. I had to restrain him. It was really traumatic for all of us. The hairstylist was incredibly kind and understanding. It’s so hard & confusing when something he’s always enjoyed suddenly becomes unbearable and he can’t tell me exactly why. Ugh!! Still shaken. Has anyone else experienced this?? a once loved activity suddenly becoming a trigger? #autismawareness
