Worst month for stocks. #september RBC data back to 1928 shows the S&P 500 has declined about 1.2% in September on average. The S&P/TSX Composite has fallen about 1.4% in September since 1970. Over the past 25 years, both have typically lost nearly 1.2% in the month. There's no single cause. Funds tidy up portfolios before fiscal year-end. Some tax-loss selling starts. And because September is known as a weak month, that reputation can feed the trend. But UBS has found that when September is weak, the S&P often bounces in October and November. So a slump in the ninth month doesn't mean a negative end to the year. Not financial advice. #investing #stocks
