I was sent this video a LOT and knew I had to add some context. The belief that Black people have “thicker skin” or feel less pain isn’t just a random misconception. It has roots in pseudoscience used to justify slavery and the medical exploitation of Black people. And while medical schools aren’t teaching a class that says “Black people feel less pain,” research has found that false beliefs about biological differences between Black and White patients still persist among medical trainees and can affect how pain is assessed and treated. Understanding racial bias in medicine means understanding the history medicine inherited. Medical myths unfortunately don’t always disappear. Sometimes, they evolve.#greenscreenvideo #greenscreen
