In 2023 I rode my bike across America with 9 of my friends. San Diego to St. Augustine, Florida. 3,000 miles, 8 states, 14 days. It was my Misogi for 2023 The hardest part was the focus. You can't look away for a second out there... cars, potholes, gravel, glass, all of it demanding your attention. The pedaling was tiring but the concentrating was something else altogether. Here's the other thing nobody tells you. Almost all of it blurs. What I actually have left from those 14 days is the laughing. Sauna delirium at 11pm, the pranks, Kevin blasting 80s love songs in an RV full of grown men who do not want to talk about feelings, hundreds of you sending us pickles on the side ot the road. I think that's true with most of life. Most of it blurs, and we keep the laughs and the moments we shared. Those become the stories we tell. We also got hundreds of bikes and helmets into the hands of kids who didn't have one. Still the best part of the whole thing. This ride sat on my f#ck it list for 15 years before I did it.
